Wednesday 10 August

  1. Steep slopes, as well as streams and rivers with high discharge, are particularly exposed. Rain is expected, followed by heavy showers in some places. Groundwater and soil moisture are high. The expected rain will increase the danger of landslides.

    Area

Applies to Helgeland og deler av Salten.

    [varsom.no]

    Instructions

Keep away from steep slopes, as well as streams and rivers with high discharge. Keep water paths and culverts free of snow, ice, gravel, waste, twigs and leaves. Clogged waterways with dammed water may cause landslides. Municipalities, Counties and other emergency operators should continuously evaluate the need for preparedness and prevention measures.

    Consequences

Landslides may be expected. Exposed railways and roads may be closed. Landslides are expected, some with considerable consequences. Large slides may reach settlements, roads and railways.

    The three severity levels

    Yellow - moderate danger
    Orange - considerable danger
    Red - extreme danger

  3. Water discharge is expected to increase because of rain and snowmelt. This may cause local inundation where river channels are filled with ice and because of frozen ground. It also may cause ice drift in streams, with subsequent local inundation. Local flooding and erosion damage. High flow/water level in comparison to normal seasonal variations. Large amounts of rain are expected in the warning area.

    Area

Applies to Nordlige deler av Helgeland og sørlige Salten.

    [varsom.no]

    Instructions

Stay informed on the situation. Secure and/or move assets away from vulnerable areas (car, caravan along rivers/streams, basements). Cleaning of drainage paths and culverts is recommended. Keep away from rivers and streams with high flow.

    Consequences

Local flooding and/or erosional damage in streams and small rivers. Risk of storm water in urban areas, local flooding, stream bank erosion, changing waterways, shallow landslides at locations impacted by showers.
