Weather statistics for Byglandsfjord observation site, Bygland (Agder)

  1. Applies to Agder og Telemark

Heavy rain is expected. The watercontent in the soil will increase due to snowmelt. The soil is locally water-saturated. Steep slopes, as well as streams and river with high discharge, are particularly exposed. Risk of slushflows is especially high in areas with more than 50 cm snow. The snow may in some places be fully water-saturated. Slushflows are triggered even in relatively gentle slopes, where water accumulates. Slushflows follow terrain depressions, and may develop into debris flows. Debris flows may reach the valley bottom even if they are triggered high in the terrain.

  3. Applies to indre deler av Agder, Telemark og Buskerud

Large amounts of rain are expected in the warning area. Rising temperatures will lead to high snow melting also in the high mountains. Rain is expected mostly in the inner areas. The amount of precipitation is somewhat uncertain. Follow the weather radar. The combination of rain and continuous snow melting will increase water discharge. Rapid increase of discharge in small and medium sized rivers is expected. Hydropower production will in some cases act as flood control, and therefore the issued warning will not necessarily apply to all regulated waterways.
