Friday, Jan. 22

close
  1. From early Thursday morning expected east severe gale force 9, with strong gust 27-35 m/s, in Nordland. From Thursday afternoon the wind increases also in Troms. Late Thursday, there is a risk of even stronger gusts.

    Area

Applies to Helgeland, Saltfjellet, Salten, Ofoten og Troms.

    [met.no]

    Instructions

Secure loose objects. Follow advice and check status from transport operators. Check road reports (175.no).

    Consequences

Loose items may be taken by the wind. Some journeys may have longer travel times. Blowing snow causes reduced visibility and possibly convoys and/or closed roads.

    Timeline

    1. Thursday, 21 January 01:00 - wind increases

    The three severity levels

    Yellow - moderate danger
    Orange - considerable danger
    Red - extreme danger

Read more about the severity levels at hjelp.yr.no

  2. Locally moderate vessel icing is expected in coast- and fjordareas from Thursday forenoon.

    Area

Applies to Helgeland, Salten, Ofoten, Lofoten og Vesterålen.

    [met.no]

    Instructions

    Remove ice from the boat.

    Consequences

Rapid ice accumulation on a small boat may cause it to lose its stability, tip over and sink. For ships the issue is more directed towards slippery decks, handrailing, ladders, iced down safety boats and safety equipment. Ice accumulation may also damage radio communication if the antennas are freezing. Moderate ice accumulation on the bow/bridge of the ship.

    Timeline

    1. Thursday, 21 January 10:00 - increasing danger

    The three severity levels

    Yellow - moderate danger
    Orange - considerable danger
    Red - extreme danger
